Field services

Contractor

Land clearing, overburden removal, material hauling, stockpile management, and barging to support mining operations.

Scope

Contractor work that begins with an understanding of field conditions.

ABM begins the discussion with the project context: site characteristics, work boundaries, required outcomes, access, schedule, and coordination needs. This information provides the basis for defining work methods and equipment requirements.

Available equipment, capacity, operating area, and portfolio data are summarised in the sections below.

In execution, the contractor division uses the Lean Model and Fleet Management System (FMS) to monitor the fleet and maintain production performance.

From brief to execution

A clear scope provides the basis for execution.

Contractor work preparation needs to clarify the work area, required outcomes, dependencies with other work, and the responsibility boundaries of each party.

This information provides the basis for discussing methods, resources, work sequencing, and coordination in line with the project documents.

Operating scope

From land clearing through material shipment.

01

Land Clearing

Opening and clearing the land before the mining area is developed.

  • Initial operating stage
02

OB Removal

Excavating topsoil and overburden to expose the coal or mineral seam.

  • TGM: 3 units of 50T excavators
  • Loa Haur: 5 units of 50T excavators (2027 plan)
03

Coal / Ore Getting

Extracting coal or minerals from the exposed seam.

  • TGM: 3 units of 20T excavators
  • Loa Haur: 4+1 spare 20T excavators (2027 plan)
  • Bauxite: Tayan Hilir and Sanggau
04

Hauling

Transporting overburden and coal, including material for embankment construction.

  • TGM: 18 dump trucks
  • Loa Haur: 35 dump trucks (2027 plan)
  • Tayan Hilir: ±180 units of 20T dump trucks
05

Road Maintenance

Maintaining haul roads so the hauling cycle remains smooth and safe.

  • Haul road from pit to washing plant: 6–12 km (Sanggau)
06

Stockpile Management

Managing coal or ore stockpiles before shipment to the jetty.

  • Loa Haur: jetty stockpile
  • Sanggau: washing plant to stockpile, 300–500 m
07

Barging

Transporting material by barge from the jetty to the mother vessel.

  • Sanggau: jetty located 800 m from the stockpile
08

Heavy Equipment Rental

Rental of heavy equipment, dump trucks, and light vehicles.

  • Excavator
  • Dump truck
  • Light vehicle

Projects and track record

Coal jobsites and bauxite experience.

TGM is active; Loa Haur is in ramp-up with a 2027 fleet plan. Two bauxite projects in West Kalimantan are complete.

Coal jobsites

Completed projects

Bauxite

Tayan Hilir, Kalimantan Barat

Completed
70 Excavator PC300
Match factor 1:2.5, haul distance 0–6 km
±180 Dump truck 20T
Approximately 180 units
9 Washing plant
Ore washing
8 Excavator long arm
Tailing pond normalisation
Annual production, thousand MT
2021 2,294 thousand MT
  • Annual production peaked in 2021 at 2,294 thousand MT.
  • Accumulated production from 2021 to 2023: 3,990 thousand MT.
  • Wet-season strategy: ore getting was stopped and the fleet moved to new-pit opening work.
  • Tailing management: 8 long-arm excavators reduced embankment failure risk.

Bauxite

Sanggau, Kalimantan Barat

Completed
10 Excavator PC300
Ore getting
8 Excavator PC200
Loading to the washing plant
15–20 Dump truck 20T
Medium-distance route
2 Washing plant
Supported by 2 long-arm units for tailing
Annual production, thousand MT
2019 291.5 thousand MT

Production paused from 2014 to 2017 following a regulatory change that prohibited raw bauxite ore exports. Operations resumed in 2018.

  • Annual performance peaked in 2019 at 291.5 thousand MT.
  • Hauling: pit to washing plant 6–12 km, washing plant to stockpile 300–500 m, and jetty 800 m from the stockpile.
  • Quality control: optimised oversize crushing maintained bauxite quality before barging.

Initial brief

Information that helps us understand the work.

The initial discussion starts with actual site conditions. Technical details can then be aligned with the project documents.
